NOTE: I’m sharing with you a commentary that was penned some years ago – February 8, 2008.

Because of early-week traveling, I found myself scrambling for time. — As a result, I thought I would go back to the archives for something of interest for this week’s entry. I then stumbled across this abbreviated piece and when I sat down to look for possible updates, I realized it needed none.
— Funny how prophecy-related end-time conditions are so consistent when based upon Biblical fact.
==========================================
You can sense it – It’s in the air!
It is the scent of things to come — things prophesied long ago, but are now present in the societal, cultural, and political air we breathe.
There is a huge change coming, according to God’s word, and it won’t spell for better times for those who dwell upon the Earth.
The ‘transformation’ of our country is well underway, and has been for decades. – The tide of humanism has all but destroyed the foundation of decency this nation was built upon.
Starting in the 1960’s, we saw the Judicial Branch of our government replace much of the Legislative and Executive Branches involvement in shaping social and cultural positions for this nation.
Roe vs. Wade and the abortion of nearly 50 million babies, followed by prayer and Bible-reading being rejected and then ejected by humanists who now run the public schools — prepared the way for the complete foundational transformation of church life in America — and spiritual changes that NO NATION can survive as a moral entity.
The mega church movement that has invited entertainment priorities to replace sound doctrinal teaching and preaching is the result of decades of telling the American people that while church (meaning Christianity) and state must be separate at all costs, the church MUST allow the secular things of the nation — and all things attendant to humanism — to be an “intellectual” part of its activities.
Entertainment, pop psychology, secular rock bands with an occasional look at the spiritual, and all sorts of merchandizing, has become part of this transitional change.
The methodologies have worked! – The mega churches have exploded in numbers and have grown wealthy and “influential”. Attendees receive no sound doctrinal meat of God’s word, in most cases, but the people have “been to church”. Their consciences can be clear and it didn’t hurt one bit.
This transformational change the humanists — and satan — want is coming to pass.
The result will be the regime of the Antichrist, whom the masses will worship as God.
Psalm 2:1-3 says, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the Earth set themselves, and rulers take counsel together , against the Lord, and against His anointed, saying, Let us break their banks asunder, and cast away their chords from us.”
So, all this change we’ve seen in recent years has not been good for the condition of this nation, or its church.
We must and should know that true change comes only from the transformed spiritual heart — a condition produced only through God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen!

It is becoming more clear by the day that our world is facing a time of great peril. As an example, in just the past two years, we’ve seen many news headlines trumpeting the possibility of the global financial system disintegrating into chaos. – In addition, we’ve seen cataclysmic events take place such as the devastating earthquake – created tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people in Indonesia in 2004. — And just this month, we watched as Haiti was decimated by another large earthquake, again killing hundreds of thousands.

It seems that no matter where you live or who you talk to, regardless of their political or religious affiliation, all seem to sense that something more ominous is about to come upon us.
Having said this, I believe that God is in control of all events. When looking again at the economic crisis, we’ve seen governments around the world pledge some $2 trillion to try and stabilize the global economic meltdown, but it still remains on very shaky ground.
To the point, the outlook for the world in many areas has become so grim, I see only two possible outcomes from the viewpoint of a believer:
1)God is either using all these crises to bring about a great revival, -or-
2)He is soon going to take His church home (Rapture) and begin the Tribulation countdown.
After much study and prayer, I believe we are headed for the second option. Like most, I would love to see revival break out. In fact, some of my Christian friends and acquaintances hold to the view that the Lord is going to pour out a “latter rain” revival. – Some other folks believe the church is going to take over the world for Christ. — But I just don’t see the Bible pointing to such an outcome.
We know for a fact that there have been countless revivals throughout the church age. Here is a list of eight that stand out as having the greatest impact:
◆The Pre-Reformation Revival — 1300-1500
(Lollards, Wycliffe, Hus, Savonarola)
  ◆Reformation — 1517 – 1560
(Zwingli, Luther, Calvin)
  ◆The First Great Awakening — 1740-1745
(Harris, Wesley, Whitefield, Edwards, Brainerd)
  ◆The Second Great Awakening — 1798 – 1832
(Finney, Nettleton, Beecher, Matteson)
  ◆The Layman’s Revival — 1857 – 1861
(Palmer, Lanphier, Moody)
  ◆The Great Welsh Revival 0f 1904
(Roberts, Howells)
◆The Asuza Street Revival of 1906
(Seymour, Bartleman)
  ◆The Jesus Movement — 1967-1973
The obvious thing to me that makes revival hard to grasp as a possibility now is the word of God’s repeated mention of spiritual darkness as the hallmark of the last days. Several prophetic scriptures describe the last days as a time of great apostacy. Here are three examples:
2 Thessalonians 2:3 says,
Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
Matthew 24:24 states:
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.
Revelation 3:10 says,
Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
Another scriptural obstacle to a revival is the fact that we are in the “Laodicean Age”. Dr. David Reagan recently gave a good outline of how the seven churches described in Revelation, Chapters 2 and 3, present a prophetic view of church history:
“The last of the churches mentioned, the one that represents the church of the end times, is the church at Laodicea. It is pictured as a church that is neither hot (healing) nor cold (refreshing), but rather is lukewarm or tepid (Revelation 3:15-16). In short, it is a church that is apathetic. Jesus also pictures it as a worldly church enamored with its wealth (Revelation 3:17). The Lord is so dissatisfied with this church that He declares, ‘Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth’” (Revelation 3:16).
But I believe the greatest obstacle against revival is man’s growing acceptance of sin – his immunity to repentance. Look back at the aforementioned historic revivals and see how they diminish in number and scale over the years. — A key problem is that revival today means getting something from God. People who flocked to the so-called revivals at the Toronto Airport Vineyard Christian Fellowship and Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola were mostly looking for an emotional or physical blessing. — A decade later, it’s hard to argue with the simple fact that these events have been marked as questionable practices, and have had nearly zero impact on society.
In the revivals of the past, saints were given their marching orders to reach the lost for Christ. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, was very direct about how to win souls: “You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be spent in this work. Observe: it is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring them to repentance, and with all your power to build them up in holiness without which they cannot see the Lord.”
To sum up, the world will see revival. In fact, the Bible predicts a future revival that will dwarf all others. — Once millions of people realize that they missed the Rapture, they will find true faith. – The terrible and trying conditions of the Tribulation will cause many to quickly reach a level of dedication where they will be willing to sacrifice their lives for the gospel.
But we Christians must do everything we can right now to advance the Kingdom of God before the Rapture takes place. — Look to your loved ones, your friends and neighbors — anyone who is either not saved or taking their salvation for granted, and tell them to wake up! – Difficult times are upon us, and Jesus said in Luke 21:28, “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

In Revelation, Chapter 13, we see a “beast coming out of the sea.” This beast, of course, is none other than the coming world ruler of the last days – the Antichrist.

And then in verses 16 and 17 of the same chapter, it says this beast “also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.” And then in verse 18, scripture tells us, “the number is 666”.
I’m referring to this specific scripture this week because God has put this huge burden on my heart concerning this soon-coming “mark of the beast”.
This particular passage of prophetic scripture didn’t have much meaning, or make sense to people in the past — Just like many of Daniel’s visions and dreams. – In fact, Daniel was told to “close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.” (Daniel 12:4)
As with much of the prophetic scripture, until modern technology emerged, much of it could never have been understood.
Concerning Daniel’s mention of “increased knowledge”, just take a look at these past 100 years. It is simply mind-boggling as to what has taken place. – I have many fond memories of conversations with my mother. She was born in 1914 when cars and planes were in their infancy. I remember her telling me about growing up in eastern Montana and how her mother would go to town maybe once a year, and that was in a horse and buggy! — That was less than 100 years ago!
Look at the advancement today in computer technology. In just these past 10 years it is amazing as to what has transpired. — And now we can begin to understand the dreams and visions the prophets had concerning these end times. There was no way, as God was telling Daniel, that they could have been understood before now.
For a moment, let’s take a brief look at some of the news stories of the past two years concerning this technology and how it relates to the coming “mark of the beast”:
◆01/15/07 – “Human I.D. Implant to be Unveiled Soon”
◆03/29/07 – “God Fearing Villagers Snub ‘Satanic’ Bar Codes (Moscow)”
◆04/21/07 – “Amish Farmers Balk at Farm I.D. Numbers” (At least they have a clue)
◆08/12/07 – “I.D. Microchips Might Be Next Assault on Individual Rights”
◆02/14/08 –  “Human I.D. Chips for Under the Skin”
◆02/02/09 – “Prophesied Cashless Society is Almost Here”
◆02/07/09 – “Humans ‘Will Be Implanted with Microchips”
◆02/28/09 – “Radio Chips Coming Soon to Driver’s Licenses”
◆06/20/09 – “Cash to Become Extinct as Chips Take Off”
◆07/15/09 – “India to Issue All 1.2 Billion Citizens with Biometric I.D. Cards”
◆08/26/09 – “Comprehensive I.D. Management Needed in U.S.”
◆12/08/09 – “Knesset Approves Controversial Biometric Database Law”
To us prophecy watchers, it’s quite obvious where this technology is heading. I believe the ultimately evolved super Internet system will have at its heart a complete marking and numbering system that will electronically link the individual with a central controlling entity whereby all people can be monitored and instantly dealt with as necessary. – This is the kind of system that will enable the Antichrist to control all of his “subjects”.
And this brings me to the “burden” mentioned at the beginning of this commentary. – Today, the more I talk with fellow Christians, including leaders, the more I realize how little they know about Bible prophecy!
Why is that so scary? – As technology continues to evolve and our ways of doing everyday business changes with it, the day will come where a chip in the right hand or forehead will be required in order to participate in society – and most people, including Christians, will accept these changes as part of the new modern landscape.
But what does scripture say about accepting this “mark of the beast”? Revelation 14:9-11 says:
A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.”
So you can see why I am so burdened. It shows that there is NO excuse for receiving this mark. Ignorance of scripture will hold no water on Judgement Day.
The time is not far off when each of us will be faced with this decision. This mark will be required to receive Social Security, pensions, medical treatment, and even every-day tasks of buying food and medicine for our families.
I encourage each one of you to study these scriptures, and then pass what you learn on to those who are unaware. – You will be saving their eternal lives!
And remember, God will reveal ways for us to survive until His appointed time. – We must walk in this knowledge and encourage others along the way.
Remember, Jesus said in Revelation 3:10,
Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
Until next time,
