I was visiting with some dear Christian friends a few days ago and, of course, all the prognostications concerning this month of September came up … the Blood Moon phenomena – Jewish holidays falling on certain specific dates, including the close of the Shemitah year – the Pope’s visit … just about anything and everything one could imagine that is currently taking place. … During this conversation, we shared all sorts of thoughts including disappointment, excitement, expectation … all the emotions that come with these times we are now living in. … And guess what? .. Except for the final Blood Moon event, which is to take place in two days (28th), we are still here! … The Trumpet hasn’t blown and the sinful world hasn’t experienced severe havoc and destruction as of yet! …. which leads me to my thoughts concerning all this stuff ……..

Glancing back for a moment, how many times in just our lifetimes have we experienced specific date-setting in regards to the ‘end?’ … Just for fun, I went back to the time of Christ and took a quick glimpse. … The following are just a few of what I discovered ….. I found some 64 predictions dating back to AD 53. … There were three in the first millennium, with the year 1000 being the ‘big one.’ … That year has to go down as one of the most heightened periods of hysteria over the return of Christ. It seemed that all members of society at that time were affected by the prediction that Jesus was coming back at the start of the new millennium. … No specific prophetic events were happening at the time but it didn’t seem to matter. … The number 1000 seemed to be the sole reason! .. obviously, nothing happened. …

From 1001 – 1799 AD, I found five specific dates … 1033, 1186, 1420, 1524-26, 1534, 1650-60 & 1666 …. The year 1666 AD seems worth mentioning … For the citizens of London, this was not a banner year. .. A Bubonic Plague outbreak killed some 100,000 and the Great Fire of London struck the same year. Finally, the fact that the year ended with the Beast’s number — 666 — didn’t help matters. …

Now let’s move to the 1800’s where things really began to pick up. … In all, I found six ‘end of days’ predictions for just that century … 1809, 1814, 1836, 1843-44, 1859 & 1881. … The 1809 one is very interesting, to say the least. … Mary Bateman, who specialized in fortune-telling, had a magic chicken that laid eggs with end-time messages on them. .. One message said that Christ was coming. .. The uproar she created ended when an unannounced visitor caught her forcing an egg into the hen’s oviduct. .. Mary was later hanged for poisoning a wealthy client. … Also prominent in this century as for ‘guessing’ were spiritualist Joanna Southcott, John Wesley, William Miller, Thomas Parker, and Mother Shipton. …

Now let’s move into the period of time that has seen the list of specified dates and times skyrocket. … Starting with the 1990’s, we have witnessed at least 38 predictions that were specific to Christ’s return, with the Jehovah’s Witnesses being responsible for nine of them. … Besides them, the likes of Edgar Whisenant, Louis Farrakhan, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, Pastor John Hinkle, psychic Sheldon Nidle, Marilyn Agee, and Harold Camping head the list, to name just some of them. … Now of course, the new millennium hasn’t seen any let up. … So far, I can count some nine events, and that doesn’t include any of these recent prognostications which are to ‘come to pass’ this month! ……

Since the beginning of time, an untold number of people have tried to predict the Lord’s return by using specific and elaborate timetables, not to mention ‘adjusted’ prophecies from the Bible. … We can use this month’s predicted events as examples. … Just look at Mark Biltz’ Blood Moon theory. … While he claims not to be a date or time setter, he maintains that the rapture & end-of-days has to be tied to specific Jewish holidays along with certain celestial signs. … While very interesting, there is absolutely no Biblical proof for this position! … And then there’s Jonathon Cahn, the author of ‘The Harbinger’ and other writings concerning a coming financial collapse in America. … While I give him credit for NOT being a date-setter .. and yes .. his comparisons to previous financial events are quite intriguing .. the flaw that comes from his teachings is that the Isaiah scriptures were specific to the Jewish people. … Just because America was supposedly set up on Christian values doesn’t give this nation the same status as God’s chosen people. … Once again, pure speculation ….

Let’s get back to the real problems of date-setting. … First, what does the Bible say concerning this? … “But of that day and hour, no ones knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” (Matthew 24:36) … I don’t see the word ‘except’ in that passage!

To the point … Most date-setters do not realize that mankind has not kept an unwavering record of time. .. Anyone wanting to chart, for example, 100 BC to 2000 AD, would have to contend with the fact that 46 BC was 445 days long, there was no year 0 BC, and in 1582 we switched from Julian years (360 days) to Gregorian (365 days). .. Because most prognosticators are not aware of these errors, their math is immediately off by at least several years.

The bottom line is this … I believe we will NEVER know the exact day of Christ’s return for His Church. .. And the real problem all this date-setting creates for the cause of Christianity is very damaging. … I want to quote a statement from Bill Perkins that sums it up quite accurately … “These date-setters do great harm to the Body of Christ and are poor witnesses to the world about what Christianity is all about. And they ultimately look like fools while giving great fodder to the enemy.” … Well said, brother Bill!

Finally, when it comes to knowing the general time frame of our Lord’s return for His Church, the Word of God is really quite generous. … Jesus forewarned us of a number of events that will take place. … When we see the predicted events coming together, we can conclude that time is really short. .. Most of the soon-coming prophecies will take place in the 7-year Tribulation. .. Any forewarning of their arrival would make the Rapture all the more likely, because it will occur, I believe, at or near the start of the Tribulation period. … In my next commentary, I plan to cover many of the coming events and how they are all converging, which I believe gives us irrefutable proof that our Lord is at the doorstep! … Hallelujah! … (no date, however) …

So, what shall we do in the meantime? …… “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. .. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:42, 44) …….

Until next time,
