- Standing Firm In The 'Days Of Noah' -
(Matthew 24:37-39)
It is going to be hard for us in today's world .. that is ... we Christians. But then, no one ever said that it would be easy .... Matthew 7:13-14 says, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14) But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." ... Also, Galatians 3:22 states, ".. The scripture declares that the world is a prisoner of sin ...." But then Jesus said in John 8:11 to "Go now and leave your life of sin." ......... Like I said in the beginning ..................................
The other evening, my wife Robbin and I were watching a film called "the Radicals." It's a story of the Anabaptists during the Reformation Period and took place in the early part of the 16th century. In one of the scenes it shows a man and his wife sitting at a wooden table reading their Bible by candlelight. It struck me how peaceful all seemed to be. There was no TV blaring or phone ringing off the hook ........ now fast-forward to the early 1990's ... I remember having a conversation with my mother about how much the world had changed during her lifetime ... at that time some 80 years. She was born in 1914 and raised on a homestead in Eastern Montana. There were 11 kids along with her parents, of course, and all lived in a three-room house. They hardly had any toys ... certainly no TV or telephone .... no electricity, running water or indoor toilets ........ She went on to say how they used to make up games to play and how they would ride their horses bareback across those barren plains ... she went on to speak of very fond memories of it all ..... In fact, she went on to say that they never even new they were poor until someone told them they were ........ Oh, the simplicity of it all ......
Moving on to just last week ... I was walking my grandson to school and the subject of my being his age at one time came up ... I told him that we didn't have a TV or video games .. no cell phones or computers ......... he turned his face to me with a look of disbelief & horror, not beginning to understand how I could have survived these horrendous and deprived conditions ....
But didn't God say it would be like this in these final days? Daniel 12:4 says, "... Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." Are we running to and fro? .. You bet we are, and everything must be accomplished at hyper speed!! High-speed Internet, fast-food, express lanes .... couples even have date nights just to make sure they get to see each other!!! ..... and as for increased knowledge, we would have to be idiots to even attempt to deny this ... .. Internet with access to anything imaginable, mostly on the dark side ... Cable & satellite TV with access to hundreds of different viewing options, again with very few 'christian' options ... I-phones, I-pads, I-pods ... tweeting, twitting ... Face book ... ... ... and we wonder why Christ said it would be difficult in these days? And look at our nation ... we are taking God out of everything from public schools to public squares ... we are allowing all sorts of illegal issues to thrive such as homosexuality & abortion ... and we legitimize it in the name of 'diversity' ...
... And even if we try and walk the christian faith, we are coming under assault from all directions. Look at today's media ... there rarely is a positive portrayal of our faith ... and the few christian characters on the networks have either abandoned core biblical values or are depicted as incompetent baffoons. In addition ... sadly, countless pastors and church leaders have folded under the cultural pressure and have attempted to 'socialize' the Gospel of Christ ...... and those of us who do remain faithful to scripture are seen as radical, unintelligent and irrational.
The Gospel warns us that the Bible would be seen as ridiculous to many. 1 Corinthians 1:18 says, "For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God." ... Continuing, Mark 4:12 states, "They may be ever seeing, but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven." Finally, in Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus says "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14) But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
I want to believe with all my heart that every one of you who reads this is one of the few! The Bible clearly tells us that as we draw ever nearer to His glorious return, things would rapidly deteriorate. ... We must stand firm and never waiver, whatever the conditions. .. Matthew 10:22 says that "All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved." (Also see Mark 13:13 & Luke 21:9). .... So let us stand together .. love one another .. and be there for one another as we wait for the victory that is sure to come to us!!! Hallelujah!!!
Until next time,
Red
